Uses of 'Used to':
Getting used to something:
जब हम खुद से या दूसरों से किसी चीज से परिचित होने की उम्मीद करते हैं तो हम भी 'अभ्यस्त ('get used to)' हो सकते हैं।
We can also 'get used to' when we expect ourselves or others to get familiar with something.
| सिविल सेवाओं की परीक्षाओं की तैयारी करते समय आप पूरे दिन अध्ययन करने के आदि हो जाओगे। | While preparing for civil services exams, you will get used to studying throughout the day. |
| संजय को अपने नए चश्मे के आदी होने में कुछ समय लगा, लेकिन अब वह उसके अभ्यस्त हो रहे है। | It took Sanjay some time to adjust to his new spectacles, but now he is getting used to it. |
| पहले विशाल को कठिन लगा पर धीरे-धीरे वह पहाड़ों में ड्राइविंग करने का आदी हो गया। | At first, Vishal found it tough but gradually he got used to driving in the mountains. |
Use of 'Would' in place of 'Used to'.
हम 'Used to' के स्थान पर 'Would' का प्रयोग कर सकते हैं जब हम पिछली आदतों और दोहराए जाने वाले कार्यों के बारे में बात कर रहे होते हैं जिसके हम आदी थे। लेकिन हम 'would' का प्रयोग तब नही करते जब हम अतीत की स्थितियों या परिस्थितियों के बारे में बात करते हैं।
We can use 'would' in place of 'used to' when we are talking about past habits and repeated actions we got accustomed. But we don't use 'Would' when we talk about state or situations of the past.
| मेरी मां मुझे खांसी का इलाज करने के लिए घरेलू उपचार दिया करतीं थीं। | My mother used to give me home remedies to cure cough. |
| मेरी मां मुझे खांसी का इलाज करने के लिए घरेलू उपचार देती थीं। | My mother would give me home remedies to cure cough. |
| हम शाम को गली क्रिकेट और छुपन- छुपाई खेला करते थे। | We used to play gully cricket and hide and seek in evenings. |
| हम शाम को गली क्रिकेट और छुपन- छुपाई खेलते थे। | We would play gully cricket and hide and seek in evenings. |
