Direct-Indirect Speech - Optative Sentences
Rule No. 3
यदि इच्छासूचक वाक्य जिसमें ‘Would that….!' Or 'O that,…!' हो, रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब ’said to’ को ‘wished’ से साथ बदल दिया जाता है और Conjunction शब्द ’that’ का प्रयोग वाक्य के दोनों हिस्सों को जोड़ने के लिए किया जाता है। आमतौर पर ये वाक्य काल्पनिक वाक्य हैं, इसलिए हम वाक्य के टेन्स को नहीं बदलते हैं। जब वाक्य में 'O for...!’होता है, तो सामान्य रूप से इसमें कोई क्रिया नहीं होती है, इसलिए हमें किसी भी Conjunction शब्द की आवश्यकता नहीं होती है।
If an Optative sentence which contains 'Would that….!' Or 'O that,…!', the Reporting Verb 'said to' is replaced with 'wished' and Conjunction word 'that' is used to connect both parts of the sentence. Usually these sentences are imaginary sentences, so we do not change the tense of the sentence. When the sentence contains 'O for…!', it normally does not have a verb, hence we do not require any Conjunction word.

| उसने कहा, "हे कि मैं एक रानी होती!" | She said, "O that I were a Queen!" | She wished that she were a Queen. | उसने चाहा कि वह एक रानी होती। |
| उसने कहा, "एक कप चाय के लिए!" | She said, "O for a cup of tea!" | She wished for a cup of tea. | उसने एक कप चाय की कामना की। |
Rule No. 4
यदि इच्छासूचक वाक्य जिसमें ‘If…were’ हो, रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब ’said to’ को ‘wished’ से साथ बदल दिया जाता है और Conjunction शब्द ’that’ का प्रयोग वाक्य के दोनों हिस्सों को जोड़ने के लिए किया जाता है। हम ‘If’ को हटा देते हैं और ‘were’ के स्थान पर ‘would’ का प्रयोग करते हैं। 'Would' के बाद वर्ब की फर्स्ट फॉर्म आती है.
If an Optative sentence which contains ‘If…were, the Reporting Verb ‘said to’ is replaced with ‘wished’ and Conjunction word 'that' is used to connect both parts of the sentence. We remove 'If' and use 'would' in place of 'were'. The first form of the verb comes after 'Would'.
Examples:

| उसने कहा, "अगर मेरे पास जादू की छड़ी होती!" | She said, "If I had a magic stick!" | She wished that she would have a magic stick. | उसने चाहा कि उसके पास एक जादू की छड़ी होती। |
