Direct-Indirect Speech - Optative Sentences
ऐसे वाक्य जो शुभकामना, उत्सुक इच्छा, प्रार्थना, अभिशाप आदि को व्यक्त करते हैं। इच्छासूचक वाक्य कहलाते हैं. इच्छासूचक वाक्य एक विस्मयादिबोधक चिह्न (!) के साथ समाप्त होता है।
Such sentences which express wish, keen desire, prayer, curse etc., are called Optative sentences. The Optative sentence ends with an exclamation mark (!).
Rule No. 1
यदि इच्छासूचक वाक्य में शुभकामना होती है - सुप्रभात, शुभ दोपहर, शुभ संध्या आदि तो हम रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब 'say/said to' के स्थान पर हम 'wish/wished' का उपयोग करते हैं और हम किसी भी Conjunction शब्द का उपयोग नहीं करते हैं। जब हम अलग होते समय wish करते हैं जैसे जैसे गुड नाईट, गुड बाय आदि, तब रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब 'say/said to' को 'bade' से बदला जाता है।
If Optative sentences contain wish - Good morning, good afternoon, good evening etc., then we use 'wish/wished' in place of the reporting verb 'say/said to' and we do not use any Conjunction word. When we wish while separating like Good night, good bye etc., then the reporting verb 'say/said to' is replaced with 'bade'.

| सचिन ने कहा, " नमस्ते (शाम की) श्रीमान!" | Sachin said, "Good evening, Sir!" | Sachin wished the sir good evening. | सचिन ने श्रीमान को नमस्ते (शाम की) की । |
| प्रशान्त ने कहा, "शुभ रात्रि, पापा !" | Prashant said, "Good night, Papa!" | Prashant bade his Papa good night. | प्रशान्त ने अपने पापा को शुभ रात्रि कहा । |
| अमन ने कहा, "विदा, दोस्तों !" | Aman said, "Good bye, friends!" | Aman bade his friends good bye. | अमन ने अपने दोस्तों को विदा कहा । |
Note: Comma of 'Sir' is also removed in the Indirect Speech. (see the 2nd example)
